In quick succession she published ‘History of the industrial employment of women in the United States: an introductory study’ (JPE, 1906), ‘Harriet Martineau and the employment of women in 1836’ (JPE, 1906), ‘Employment of women in industries: cigar-making – its history and present tendencies’ (JPE, 1907), ‘Employment of women in cotton mills, parts I, II, and III’ (JPE, 1908 and 1909), ‘Study of the early history of child labor in America’ (American Journal of Sociology, 1908) and ‘Women and industry: the manufacture of boots and shoes’ (American Journal of Sociology, 1909).

Edith Abbott resumed as editor after her sister’s death in 1939. She retained the position until 1952. Throughout the 25 years Edith Abbott was associated with the Review it provided a scholarly outlet not only for the research of the School’s graduate students, but also for articles that were often multidisciplinary, historical or international in scope. The articles often took an activist position and the Review became known for its support of public welfare legislation and its bias against articles on psychiatric casework.
